Tam Polzer's Writing Journey...
tam headshot.jpg

The genesis of my writing journey involved a diary. With a key. What I wrote in that diary in second grade certainly didn’t have the answer to life's mysteries locked up inside it, but it did unlock something inside of me—my innate love for words and their nuances, my appreciation of their sounds and their subtleties.  Writing gave me the opportunity to play with our beautiful language. To capture a moment in time ... or create one. To inspire, humor, or motivate someone.

Journal entries beginning with “Dear Diary, Today I collected frogs and turtles in the creek and then sat up in a tree” morphed into entries filled with ideas for heart-felt gifts, humorous poems and quotes, pensive reflections about nature, thought-provoking books, and engaging presentations.

Thank you for being a part of my journey. Keep smiling!

My Published Works

“I need a Kitchen Fairy to clean up this mess” is something I used to think while teaching full-time, raising two children, and renovating our home. Since I didn’t have one, I gave one to a family in a story about Faith, Hope and L.O.V.E. (L.o.v.e. signifies the quadruplets: Lilly, Owen, Violet, Ellis).

The story isn’t as much about the funny predicaments the quads face as it is about how the parents' relationship changes with children and how challenging times can bring people together. The Kitchen Fairy and an angel leave family members inspiring notes from which every reader can gain insight in this heart-warming novella.

Mental illness and addiction have insidious ways of weaving a complex web into people’s lives. That’s why I wrote this book. I wanted to give people insight into what it’s like being caught unaware in a complicated web while loving brave souls who are suffering. I wanted to give people hope that progress can be made, despite the stigmas attached and hardships faced.

This eclectic collection of poetry and prose that I pulled from a decade of my journal writing is intense. And real. And it will make the reader feel an array of emotions. Each of the 205 pieces can stand alone, yet together they weave a tapestry reminding us that we are not alone in this journey we call life.

While on our journey through life, we have choices about which paths to take along the way. Whether they lead to dead ends or great opportunities, we can all learn something.

The characters in this collection all reach an epiphany, whether while maneuvering through a narrow pathway in their hoarding parents’ home, walking down a driveway after a break-up, re-discovering initials carved in a tree near an overgrown trail in the woods, talking to a ghost in a hallway, following a brick walkway through the back yard to meet their true love, going around in circles on a racetrack, or hugging in an aisle in a bar. I hope you, too, can learn something while walking along with them.

Fun Fact:

I have a twin, Tim. We are named after a horse, the 1958 Kentucky Derby Winner, Tim Tam.
